The TriField EMF Meter is an AC gaussmeter, AC electric field meter, and radio power density meter in a single unit, that combines all the features needed for fast, accurate measurements of electromagnetic fields (EMF). In addition to standard AC measurement modes, a special frequency weighted mode will properly scale the magnetic and electric measurements to indicate the full magnitude of currents produced by each type of field inside the human body.
What is EMF?
Electromagnetic fields (EMF) are comprised of an electric and a magnetic field. According to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the definition is:
Electric and magnetic fields (EMFs) are invisible areas of energy, often referred to as radiation, that are associated with the use of electrical power and various forms of natural and man-made lighting. EMFs are typically grouped into one of two categories by their frequency:
- Non-ionizing: low-level radiation which is generally perceived as harmless to humans
- Ionizing: high-level radiation which has the potential for cellular and DNA damage
Why Measure EMF Radiation?
As several studies have shown, prolonged high levels of low frequency EMF exposure can result in adverse health effects. It is therefore important to understand where EMF radiation comes from, how to measure it, find ways to reduce exposure and mitigate any negative health effects.
Symptoms of EMF Exposure
- Brain fog
- Dizziness and vertigo
- Insomnia
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Adrenal fatigue (HPA axis dysfunction)
- Hormone imbalances
- Lower immune system which leads to frequent illnesses
- Cancer or increased in cancer risk

Effects of EMF Radiation Exposure
The danger of Electromagnetic Fields radiation depends on the frequency, duration of exposure, and strength of EMFs. The typical levels of exposure of the general population range from 5 to 50 V/m for electric fields and from 0.01 to 0.2 μT for magnetic fields.
The biological damage (e.g. DNA damage, neurological effects, etc.) are now widely reported to occur at exposure levels significantly below most current national and international safety limits.
- Possible disturbance of the immune system1
- Possible impact on the reproductive system2
- Possible effect on testosterone levels and male fertility3
- Possible disruption of hormonal balance and thyroid function4
- Possible effect on brain function and sleep5
- Possible cause of headaches6
- Possible effect on moods, including depression7
EMF exposure was found to alter the reproductive endocrine hormones, gonadal function, embryonic development, pregnancy, and fetal development.2
In our study there was a significant correlation between total radiation exposure and increasing TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormones) values among both all respondents.3
Historically, ample evidence has ruled out the substantial short-term impact of radiofrequency electromagnetic field (RF-EMF) emitted by MP on human cognitive performance. However, more recent evidence suggests potential harmful effects associated with MP EMF exposure.4
Among the more commonly reported changes are sleep disturbance/insomnia, headache, depression/depressive symptoms, fatigue/tiredness, dysesthesia, concentration/attention dysfunction, memory changes, dizziness, irritability, loss of appetite/body weight, restlessness/anxiety, nausea, skin burning/tingling/dermographism and EEG changes.7

EMF Exposure Limits
Many different EMF exposure limit standards have been published. Below is a table of some of the published national and international standards. There are many variables that determine the basis of these standards, including: EMF frequency, length of exposure, and affected body part(s). One thing to note is that the IEEE and most Western European limits are based on the thermal impact of EMF on the human body, whereas the Russian and Eastern European limits focus more on dose over extended exposure periods.
